X traffic compression (/.): If you're not using any compressor on your X connections, you definitely should.
I think your options are dxpc, ssh, and lbxproxy. I used to use dxpc, but ssh (with the compression turned on!)
seems to be nearly as good, and it's simple and secure. XEmacs is very usable over a 40k ppp line
with ssh, for example. [ I've heard of LBX also. ]
