This web site is intended to be a convenient "first stop" in a Linux user's search for information. There are better sites for finding utilities and applications, but some are included, especially those related to Linux system administration and those with their own web pages. I will add to the site as I find time and interest. (I am getting most new stuff from Slashdot and Linux Weekly News.) I intend to use this site as my principle reference in my answers to comp.os.linux.* questions. I hope it is useful enough that others will want to refer to it also.
Idealy, this site would be in the form of an encyclopedia with on-site articles on every related subject under the sun. As this is impractical, most of the information is made available via links to pages at other sites. After I decide on and denote my choices of "canonical" sites for certain subjects, I intend to delete many of the links here (after verifying the canonical site has the link).
The home page is in the form of a book index, with an important exception. Because of the desire to avoid making the page very big, many items are not found in their normal alphabetical location. Instead, they are found only under some named category. When they fall very obviously into a category, that category may be contained completely on another page. I'll probably shuffle stuff around during this site's youth.
The site was created mostly from my browser's bookmark file and LDP's list of HOWTOs. I've written some help text on a few subjects and I plan to add more including input from others or extracted from Usenet articles, etc. (Gotta watch copyrights, tho.)
The name: (For those that were wondering.) I chose it for these reasons: 1) It was reasonably accurate; reflecting the kind of information resource I intended it to become. 2) It was sufficiently general to "allow" me to put anything in here without being accused of mislabeling. 3) It was an obviously proper name, so users needn't worry which to write: the "Foo Bar", or "The Foo Bar". 4) No part of it was a trademark or likely to become one.
This site has the potential of becoming huge. It should be huge to be very useful. You may help make it so by sending me material for inclusion.
Beware that this site has many links to pages at other sites. Few of them are in the public domain.
